Role and tasks at Bitlab

ATMUS (Musical Atlas) is a musical stage action in an immersive 360 sound and audiovisual environment. It is materialized through an interdisciplinary musical work combining body, movement, sound landscapes, 360 audiovisuals and live music. The production is set in a hybrid environment (face-to-face + virtual) where artists perform live in an immersive 360 video environment.

The event will take place in person on November 8 at IDEAL within Sònar + D 2021. And later, it will be broadcast on the Internet on November 15 in the context of the DCASE 2021 International Acoustics Congress.

Context

We propose an artistic, immersive and multimedia performance, in which we play live sound recordings (field recordings) and 360º images (immersive audiovisuals) documented throughout the Sound Map project of collaborative sound heritage and citizen science. With this performance we will collaborate with Sònar + D 2021 and IDEAL, as well as activate collective spaces of lateral thinking and generation of ideas among the attendees of the DCASE 2021 Workshop, and we will make an innovative performative action in cultural and social spirit.

The ATMUS project will produce a musical stage action in an immersive 360 sound and audiovisual environment. The production is set in a hybrid environment (face-to-face + virtual) where artists perform live 360 video environment.

The project is characterized by taking as a starting point the community digital archive of sound, visual, 360º and photographic content generated with the participation of citizens during the sound heritage projects of the Bit Lab Cooperative. The processes of sound maps and field recordings are concentrated in the geographies of Sant Andreu Barcelona (Kaleidoscope 2019), Raval and Sagrada Familia (Noise Maps 2020), Ciutat Meridiana (2021), Llobregat and Cardener (2021) and Besòs (2021).

The stage action will consist of a musical spectacle with 360 visuals, where 2 bands of musicians, in trio format and placed in the shape of a crescent or accordion, will play a bespoke soundtrack composed to accompany the sound and audiovisual recordings. The show will take place in an immersive cellar, with a system of 360º visual projections and multi-channel surround sound, collaborating with musicians Za!, Sara Fontan and Gambardella.

Details

The action is designed to be hosted and developed in a hybrid format, with the public and in person on November 8 at IDEAL within the Sònar + D 2021, as well as in virtual format on November 15 in the context of the DCASE International Acoustics Workshop.

The show aims to make a small tour of cultural facilities (theaters, civic centers, libraries, museums, …) in the municipalities where we have deployed processes of sound heritage with the community (Barcelona, Manresa, Sallent, Berga, Sallent,. ..), in a simplified format and reduced to one or two 2D projection screens. During the weeks of winter and spring 2022, the project and show are expected to be touring in the municipalities where the Sound Map project has been deployed.
